The Afghan Association Paiwand was formed in August 2002 by a diverse group of individuals from our community residing in the London Boroughs of Brent and Barnet, where the majority of our refugee community residing in the United Kingdom now live.

While the troubled life most of us experienced back in our native homeland through oppression, war, and political, religious and sexual discrimination and persecution was now firmly behind us, problems of language, culture and education have made assimilating into our new homeland here in the United Kingdom equally challenging and difficult. Thus, in order to alleviate some of these difficulties, which most of our members experienced themselves, and facilitate integration, the Afghan Association Paiwand was established.

At our inaugural meeting three years ago we agreed a set of aims and objectives we believed were possible to implement as a voluntary organisation, which could make a difference - and so the Afghan Association Paiwand was born.
